The St. Clair Celebrates Its Opening in Downtown Yonkers

The St. Clair officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the completion of a new mixed-use development in the heart of downtown Yonkers. The event brought together local and state officials, development partners, and community leaders to celebrate an important addition to the city's growing residential landscape.

Developed by MacQuesten Development and designed by Nexus Creative Design, the 10-story building introduces 76 affordable rental apartments alongside ground-floor commercial space, expanding housing opportunities while contributing to the continued revitalization of downtown Yonkers.

Located along Main Street, The St. Clair brings together residential living, commercial activity, and access to public transportation in one centrally located development.

The building offers a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, providing affordable housing options for households earning up to 80% of the area median income. Its proximity to the Yonkers Metro-North station, local bus routes, waterfront, and downtown businesses connects residents to employment, recreation, and essential services throughout the region.

At street level, commercial space creates additional opportunities for local businesses while supporting a more active, pedestrian-friendly downtown environment.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Sustainability was a central consideration in the design of The St. Clair. The development incorporates a high-performance building envelope and energy-efficient, right-sized mechanical systems to support long-term building performance and resident comfort.

The all-electric development was designed with ambitious sustainability goals, including Enterprise Green Communities, ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction, LEED Gold, and LEED Zero Energy standards.

These strategies reflect an approach to affordable housing that considers not only immediate residential needs but also the long-term environmental and operational performance of the building.

Spaces That Support Everyday Living

Beyond its residential units, The St. Clair incorporates shared amenities designed to enhance the daily experience of its residents.

A rooftop terrace and green roof provide outdoor gathering space, while a fitness center and community room offer opportunities for recreation and connection. Additional features include accessible residential units, on-site parking, a multi-level below-grade parking structure, and a dedicated mailroom with Amazon Hub.

Together, these elements create a residential environment that balances functionality, accessibility, and quality of life.

An Investment in Downtown Yonkers

The completion of The St. Clair represents more than the addition of new housing. It is part of a broader effort to strengthen downtown Yonkers through thoughtful, transit-oriented development and investment in the existing urban fabric.

By transforming an underutilized site into a mixed-use residential community, the project contributes to a more connected and active downtown while addressing the ongoing need for affordable housing in Westchester County.

The ribbon cutting marks an important milestone for the development and the community it serves, bringing a shared vision for sustainable, accessible housing into reality.
