Groundbreaking of the Rye Lake Water Filtration Plant

On September 26, 2025, Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rye Lake Water Filtration Plant, to be built on a parcel adjacent to Westchester County Airport.

The plant will be an 80,000-square-foot facility with capacity to treat up to 30 million gallons of water per day.

Once complete, the filtration plant will serve more than 100,000 residents in WJWW’s service area and bring Rye Lake water into compliance with drinking water standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

Construction is expected to begin in late 2025, with the plant fully operational by 2029.

The project clears the way for a modern water treatment facility that will filter turbidity, remove pathogens and organic matter, and reduce harmful disinfection byproducts — ensuring safer drinking water for the community.
