The Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan Building has been part of Irvington’s story for more than a century. Built in 1895–1896 by John Brisben Walker as the headquarters for Cosmopolitan Magazine, the building later transitioned from publishing to industrial use and became known locally as the Trent Building.

In 2023, new ownership began a careful process of reinvestment and preservation, aligned with Irvington’s Comprehensive Plan priority to adaptively reuse historic properties. The proposal reimagines the building as a luxury boutique hotel and residences, restoring key architectural elements while improving the surrounding streetscape and public realm.
